Why Gulf employers hire from India
India is the largest source of expatriate labour in the Gulf Cooperation Council. Millions of Indian workers are already employed across the region, which means there is a deep pool of candidates with Gulf experience, along with newcomers trained in trades ranging from welding and electrical work to nursing and software engineering.
Employers benefit from English proficiency, trade-training institutions such as ITIs and polytechnics, scale in volume hiring, and established travel and cultural links between India and the Gulf.
Step 1: Define the requirement precisely
Write a role brief listing trade or profession, experience range, qualifications, certifications, wage and allowance package, accommodation and transport, working hours and contract duration. The clearer the brief, the faster the screening.
- Headcount per trade and per arrival batch
- Basic salary, overtime rules and allowances
- Accommodation, food, transport, medical insurance and annual leave tickets
- Contract length, probation and renewal terms
Step 2: Choose a compliant recruitment partner
Indian rules require recruitment for ECR destinations, which include all six GCC countries, to be done through registered recruiting agents or the government's eMigrate system. Verify the agent's registration, ask for references and insist on a transparent costing sheet.
Step 3: Source, screen and test
A good partner presents shortlists with verified identity, certificates and experience. For skilled roles, request a trade test or video demonstration, and for professional roles ask for a technical interview with your own team.
Step 4: Offer, approvals and visas
Issue a clear offer and employment contract, obtain work-permit approvals from the relevant Gulf authority, and prepare the demand-letter and attestation documents that India-side processes require.
Step 5: Medical, emigration clearance and travel
Candidates complete their medical, biometrics and any required orientation. Workers with ECR passports obtain emigration clearance through eMigrate before departure. Book flights only after approvals are in place.
Step 6: Arrival and onboarding
Arrange airport reception, accommodation, residency formalities, safety induction and a first-week check-in. Early support is the single best way to reduce attrition.
