The recruitment pipeline at a glance
Although the details differ by country and role, nearly every India-to-Gulf recruitment follows the same backbone: requirement, demand documents, sourcing, selection, offer, approvals, medical, visa, emigration clearance and travel.
1. Requirement and demand documents
The foreign employer provides the job requirement, wage structure and a demand letter or power of attorney in favour of the Indian recruiting agent. Depending on the destination, these may need attestation by the Indian mission or other authority before the recruiter can process workers.
2. Sourcing and shortlisting
The recruiter advertises, searches its database and holds screening camps in states known for the relevant skills. Only candidates whose documents and experience match the brief are shortlisted.
3. Interview and trade test
Employers or their delegates interview on-site or via video. Trade tests are conducted for skilled roles, and sometimes recorded for the employer's approval.
4. Offer, contract and work permit
The selected worker signs the offer or contract, the employer files for the work permit or visa with the relevant authority, and approvals are shared back with the recruiter.
5. Medical, visa stamping and orientation
Candidates complete the required medical examination, biometrics where applicable and visa stamping. ECR workers also attend pre-departure orientation and obtain mandatory insurance.
6. Emigration clearance and departure
For ECR passport holders, emigration clearance is processed through the eMigrate system before departure. The recruiter then books tickets and informs the employer of arrival details.
